Seamless Lives of Faith | Proverbs 18:10

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

This week in the fellows program, we started off strong with an extended youth group. This is a youth session in which we, as small group leaders, get extra time to build community with just our small groups. This week’s discussion topic was God’s omnipotence. As you may be able to imagine, omnipotence is a difficult subject to talk about with sixth graders, but the time was enjoyable nonetheless.

On Monday, we heard again from the Honorable David Gustafson. He returned to continue his discussion on how we as Christians approach hard worldly topics, such as divorce, and how our Chrstian view of  “What is Man” informs these views. A handful of the fellows went to lunch at a local pupuseria, where discussions continued on topics discussed in the seminar (and eventually strayed to what each fellow’s theme song might be!).

My work at Keel Point is usually very enriching, but was especially so this past week. We had a new hire start on Monday, so when I came into the office on Tuesday I got to meet him and train him on some of the things he would be doing on a weekly and daily basis. On Wednesday, I stayed late so that I could sit in on an Angel Investor meeting that Keel Point hosts at their office. This was an extremely interesting experience. On Thursday after work, a fellow from last year hosted a bunch of the guys at his house for dinner, which was a great way to grow in fellowship with an older fellow.

In Friday morning Bible study, we discussed the spiritual discipline of welcoming prayer, which is simply the act of welcoming Jesus into your life. Specifically discussed was a sort of giving up of control, with the aim of welcoming Jesus into our anxieties and stresses of life in order to bring relief. In our seminary class, we talked through the book of judges and how thre is a mirrored structure in the book that displays the slow decline of the nation of Israel. We also spoke about 1 Samuel. In this discussion, we covered the main differences between Saul and David, and how these differences were - to a degree - foreshadowed in the book of Judges.

After seminary, I met up with my mentor for bagels and coffee and we talked about a variety of topics. In the evening, I had the opportunity to go to a house concert hosted by the incredibly hospitable Comeau’s. A former fellow was performing some of his songs, as long as other Christian songwriters. Each songwriter was an impressively proficient lyricist and performer. In sum, this week was simultaneously busy, enriching, and restful.
